MLF Heritage Cup Heads to Manchester, Bassmaster EQ Toledo Bend Looms: October Championship Week-One Roundup

By BassFishing.World StaffOctober 5, 202610 min read

October is championship-season month on the pro circuits, and the opening week of October 2026 made that official. In the next 18 days, both tournament leagues will stage events that reshape next year's rosters: MLF drops into Manchester, Tennessee for the Toyota Heritage Cup (Oct. 18-23), B.A.S.S. runs the second of three Elite Qualifiers at Toledo Bend (Oct. 21-23), and the entire fall calendar is pointing at Lake Hartwell, which hosts both the Mercury B.A.S.S. Nation Championship in November and the 2027 Bassmaster Classic next spring.

Here is what happened this week — and what the next three weeks look like for tournament bass fishing.

MLF Toyota Heritage Cup: Manchester, Tenn., Oct. 18-23

The second of four 2026 Starlink Team Series Cup events, the Toyota Heritage Cup Presented by OFF! Deep Woods Repellents, is now locked in for six days of competition in and around Manchester, Tennessee. All fishable waters within 60 miles of Manchester are already under the standard MLF Cup off-limits rule.

The Heritage Cup field is 12 two-man teams drawn from the Bass Pro Tour roster through two drafts. Captains are the top 24 BPT anglers by points earned in Stages 1-3 of the 2026 season, and each captain picks a partner to build out their team. The schedule stacks three Elimination Matches (Oct. 18-20), two Knockout Matches (Oct. 21-22), and a Championship Round on Oct. 23. Each day of competition is a six-hour, three-period catch-weigh-immediate-release format with 15-minute breaks between periods, and total team weight across every scorable bass decides the match.

Confirmed teams in the Heritage Cup field include Team B&W Trailer Hitches (Todd Faircloth of Jasper, Texas and Nick LeBrun of Bossier City, La.), Team BUBBA with Zack Birge of Blanchard, Okla. paired with Mark Rose of Wynne, Ark., Team Ferguson with Brent Ehrler of Redlands, Calif., plus veteran pairings like Takahiro Omori of Tokyo with Dean Rojas of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Keith Carson of DeBary, Fla. with Anthony Gagliardi of Prosperity, S.C., and Brent Chapman of Lenexa, Kansas with Alton Jones of Lorena, Texas.

The 2026 Starlink Team Series opened in August at the Bass Pro Shops Patriot Cup on the Potomac River in Charles County, Maryland. Bradley Roy and Greg Vinson of Team Seaguar BRAWLR won it in dominant fashion, finishing the Championship Round at 92 pounds, 5 ounces on 46 scorable bass — more than 52 pounds clear of second place. Heritage Cup winners will join Roy and Vinson as 2026 Team Series Cup champions with the Challenge and Summit Cups still to come.

Prize purse across all four Team Series Cups in 2026 is $560,000.

Bassmaster Elite Qualifier at Toledo Bend: Oct. 21-23

Three days after MLF crowns a Heritage Cup winner in Tennessee, the second leg of the 2026 Nitro Boats Bassmaster Elite Qualifiers presented by Bass Pro Shops launches at Cypress Bend Park on Toledo Bend Reservoir in Many, Louisiana. The event concludes Friday, Oct. 23 — part of B.A.S.S.'s intentional move to end EQ events on Fridays and lean into weekend digital viewership.

Forward-facing sonar is allowed at Toledo Bend. (The 2026 EQ series uses a mixed-tech ruleset: one event allows FFS, one bans it, and the third is decided by a public coin flip after the Opens season — the result of that September 4 live coin flip was reported in our Elite Series FFS roundup.)

Toledo Bend in late October has a well-earned reputation for power fishing — hydrilla flats, underwater timber, and the kind of trophy-class bass that reward anglers who can handle big fish on heavy cover. Fall transitions will be in full swing.

The AOY points race opens Toledo Bend tight after Kaden Buchmann's wire-to-wire win at Norfork Lake on September 25 (42-7, +1-14 over Cody Stahl, full Norfork recap here):

  • 127 — Kaden Buchmann
  • 126 — Cody Stahl
  • 125 — Luke Dice
  • 124 — Tristan Flick

That one-point separation between the top four heading into Toledo Bend means the AOY race is still wide open. Buchmann already locked a 2027 Bassmaster Classic invitation to Lake Hartwell with his Norfork win. The Toledo Bend winner earns a Classic berth as well. The 2026 EQ series concludes at Lake Guntersville on Nov. 11-13.

A total of 132 anglers are competing across the three-event postseason. Ten invitations to the 2027 Progressive Bassmaster Elite Series are available based on final EQ AOY standings, plus $110,000 in Angler of the Year prize money. The No-Information Rule — mirroring Elite Series and Classic protocol — remains in effect for the full series.

2027 Bass Pro Tour Roster Set — Five Pro Circuit Grads Named

MLF formalized its 2027 Bass Pro Tour roster of 50 anglers in advance of the Heritage Cup. The headline from the roster announcement is the five newcomers who earned their first BPT invitations through the 2026 Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit Angler of the Year standings:

  • Ryan Lachniet
  • Connor Jacob
  • Carter Nutt
  • Brody Campbell
  • Will Harkins

The 2027 schedule has seven stages:

  • Stage 1 — St. Johns River, Palatka, Fla. (Jan. 14-17) — Mercury-presented
  • Stage 2 — Caddo Lake and Cross Lake, Shreveport-Bossier City, La. (Feb. 25-28)
  • Stage 3 — Norris Lake, Campbell County, Tenn. (Mar. 11-14)
  • Stage 4 — Toledo Bend Reservoir, Hemphill, Texas (Apr. 1-4)
  • Stage 5 — Lake Champlain, Plattsburgh, N.Y. (Apr. 29 - May 2)
  • Stage 6 — Pickwick Lake, Counce, Tenn. (Jun. 24-27)
  • Stage 7 — Pasquotank River, Elizabeth City, N.C. (Aug. 5-8)

Toledo Bend hosts both leagues inside a six-month window — a Bassmaster EQ this October and a BPT regular-season stage next April. That is the kind of back-to-back pressure that will drive bait and locator data for a full year.

2027 Bassmaster Classic Picture: Hartwell on Both Ends of the Fall

The road to the 2027 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Classic presented by Under Armour at Lake Hartwell is coming into focus. Fifty-five anglers will qualify through the Elite Series, the Opens, the B.A.S.S. Nation circuit, the Bassmaster College Series, and the Bassmaster Team Championship, plus the defending Classic champion and the winner of the final 2026 Elite Series event.

Two Hartwell-centric qualifying events still ahead this fall:

  • Mercury B.A.S.S. Nation Championship presented by Lowrance, Nov. 18-21 at Lake Hartwell (Green Pond Landing, Anderson, S.C.). The overall champion secures a 2027 Elite Series invitation. The top three finishers earn 2027 Classic berths.
  • The final 2026 EQ at Lake Guntersville, Nov. 11-13 — winner gets a 2027 Classic berth, and the final EQ AOY points race decides the 10 Elite Series invitations.

In other words: the water that will host the 2027 Classic also hosts the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship that feeds three anglers into it. Hartwell local knowledge in November will be at a premium among the EQ field and the Nation Championship qualifiers alike.

Phoenix BFL Super Tournament Season Wraps, Regional Championships Next

Grassroots-level anglers finished a huge weekend. The Phoenix Bass Fishing League closed out its 2026 Super Tournament season Oct. 3-4 with simultaneous two-day events across five regions: Lake Hartwell (Harrison Oil Company presented), Bull Shoals Lake, Kentucky-Barkley Lakes (Country Boy Brewing presented), Dale Hollow Lake (Suzuki Marine presented), and the Ohio River at Tanners Creek.

Weigh-in coverage ran on MLF's platform Day 1 and Day 2 of each event. Super Tournaments are the gateway to BFL Regional Championships — regional qualifiers advance to the fall regionals, where top finishers earn All-American invitations and Pro Circuit opportunities. Full press-release results from the Super Tournaments are being posted on MajorLeagueFishing.com; check the BFL circuit page for official standings and prize money.

If you are a weekend tournament angler trying to track the ladder: Super Tournament → Regional Championship → All-American → tour-circuit opportunities. The next step is the regional championships, which stage across the country through late October and November.

What to Watch For Next Week

  • Heritage Cup pre-event coverage — MLF typically releases pre-event scouting content and full team-by-team breakdowns in the week leading up to the first elimination match. Expect those to hit the week of Oct. 13.
  • Toledo Bend practice reports — EQ competitors have official practice Oct. 18-20, with the three days of competition starting Wednesday the 21st.
  • BFL regional field announcements — once Super Tournament results are certified, regional championship fields will be published.

Championship season is the stretch where a bad event can cost an angler an entire year of invitations, and a hot event can rewrite a career. The next three weeks are the ones that matter most.
