Fall transition pushes bass toward creek mouths and canals

We have a gap in fresh reports for Santee Cooper this week, with the last reliable update coming from early October. Back then, the water was still sitting around 80 degrees, and guys were splitting their time between shallow cypress trees and offshore brush in 8 to 25 feet.

Now that we are into November, the fall pattern is taking over. The water temperature has dropped since that last report, which pushes the shad toward the creek mouths and into the canals. The shallow bite around vegetation should be the main deal right now. Bass will be feeding heavily over hydrilla edges, eelgrass clumps, and around the cypress stumps.

For this weekend, keep a buzzbait or a topwater walking bait tied on and cover water around the grass edges and creek mouths. If the surface action slows down, pitch a soft plastic worm or a spinnerbait around the cypress trees to pick up a few extra bites.
